Michael Drummond is a St. Louis artist working at the intersection of fashion and fine art. For over two decades he has built wearable art, sculpture, and mixed-media objects from reclaimed and deadstock textiles and unconventional materials, patterning and constructing by hand in his studio. His work ranges from fully fashioned knitwear to conceptual pieces in silk organza, etched mirror, cast fossil, and found material. He is currently Designer in Residence at Stars Design Group, and previously held the same title at the Saint Louis Fashion Fund from 2018 to 2021. His solo exhibition Being Played opened at the World Chess Hall of Fame in 2019, and his work has also been shown at the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle, and the Missouri History Museum. He has curated exhibitions at the Sheldon Art Galleries and the Regional Arts Commission. An alumnus of Project Runway, his participation in the Marcel Duchamp centenary at MoMA was part of the event examined in a 2026 New York Times essay on chess as an art form.

Clothing is a language, spoken through movement, texture, and the wearer. My favorite pieces adapt: a blouse that can be washed in a hotel sink and ready by evening, a dress that moves from workspace-to-dinner without asking for attention but always getting it. Clothes that feel purposeful, wear well over time, and fit effortlessly into life.

I design garments for the lives we actually live. Each piece evolves over years, not seasons, often using deadstock fabrics and materials already available to bring thoughtfulness and sustainability into every choice.

Through collaboration with local printers, makers, and artists, these stories become tangible. I never want my clothes to be a “question mark” in the back of a closet, each piece is unique, made to be worn, relied upon, and loved. Timeless, deliberate, and versatile, they quietly earn attention and remain essential in the wardrobe for years.
